Adopting a Small Furry – The Process

The small furries adoption process is based on which type of animal you choose – hamster, rat, mouse, chinchilla, degu (looks like a large gerbil but has a longer lifespan – see factsheet for further info on this animal) or gerbil, but it generally follows the steps below. We always make the sure the animal is homed with the right equipment or cages so will advise on care etc. before you adopt. If you’d like further information, please submit an enquiry through the form below – we will reply asap.

Step 1

You can view all the small furries that are in need of a new home here on our website.

Step 2

Once you make contact with us, we’ll arrange a homecheck with you in order to clear you for adoption before meeting/adopting the animal(s).

    Your Name (required)

    Your Email (required)

    Your Address (required)

    Your Postcode (required)

    Your Phone Number (required)

All our animals are fostered in and around the Twickenham (SW London) area. Please confirm you would be able to collect the animal from this location on successful completion of a homecheck? (required)

Name Of Animal You Are Interested In.

If you already have a cage or tank, please add the make, model and size here. If you don't, please view the animal care pages for those that are accepted and add the info below (required)

For single social animals (chinchillas, rats, degus, gerbils and mice) do you already have a potential partner for them?

    Step 3

We’ll then put you in touch with the fosterer to arrange a suitable time for you to meet and then also adopt the animal if you have the equipment etc. ready.

    Step 4

To go ahead with the adoption, you will need to complete and sign our adoption form and pay the minimum donation (payment details on the right of this page) for your new companion(s). Please see minimum donations.

Finally, please don’t forget to come back and leave us a message on our testimonials page once your new pet has settled in!

If you’re not sure which animal you’d like to adopt as you don’t know much about them, our Small Furries Factsheets should help (please note that it is solely for guidance to help you understand each animal and their requirements).

    Adoption Donation

While it would be great to rehome animals for free, like all animal charities we need to cover the costs of our vet fees, pet food, litter, beds and housing, toys and all the other associated costs of running A.R.C. Our vet fees alone are in excess of £5,000 a month. Instead of charging a set fee, we ask for a minimum donation as you take your new companion home.

Minimum Donation for Small Furries (there may be a discount if you’re adopting a group)

    • £10 each for hamsters
    • £10 each for mice
    • £10 each for rats
    • £10 each for gerbils
    • £20 each for degus
    • £35 each for chinchillas

You can pay your adoption fees directly via PayPal, GoCardless or bank transfer. If you cover the fees payable in PayPal or GoCardless, your money will go even further to helping the animals in our care. Please make sure to say which animal you are adopting on your payment to help us track our income. You can also complete this form with details of your payment – thank you!
