Adopting a Small Furry – The Process

The small furries adoption process is based on which type of animal you choose – hamster, rat, mouse, chinchilla, degu (looks like a large gerbil but has a longer lifespan – see factsheet for further info on this animal) or gerbil, but it generally follows the steps below. We always make the sure the animal is homed with the right equipment or cages so will advise on care etc. before you adopt. If you’d like further information, please submit an enquiry through the small animal online form on the animal adoption page and Cat (small animal rehomer) will reply asap.

Step 1
Once you make contact with us, we’ll arrange a homecheck with you in order to clear you for adoption before meeting/adopting the animal(s).

Step 2
We’ll then put you in touch with the fosterer to arrange a suitable time for you to meet and then also adopt the animal if you have the equipment etc. ready.

Step 3
To go ahead with the adoption, you will need to complete and sign our adoption form and leave the minimum donation for your new companion(s) with the fosterer. Please see minimum donations.

Finally please don’t forget to come back and leave us a message on our Testimonials page once your new pet has settled in!

If you’re not sure what animal you’d like to adopt as you don’t know much about them, the table in the link below should help (please note that it is solely for guidance to help you understand each animal and their requirements).
