There are many ways you can help animals in our care
ARC is entirely dependent on donations and all the money we raise goes directly to rescuing and caring for animals.
Healthcare: the most expensive part of our work for animals
Did you know it can cost over £200 to vaccinate and neuter an animal ready for rehoming? And that doesn’t include food costs!
Our monthly bills to run the charity are typically £6,000 to £8,000 per month. Our vet bills include veterinary care, neutering, medication, health checks worming and flea treatment.
Other animal care costs
- Food, which sometimes has to include a special diet
- Litter, bedding and hay
- Carriers and pens
- Beds and housing such as hutches, cages, tanks and heaters
- Litter trays and feeding bowls
- Recreational elements like scratching posts, runs and toys
Our volunteers
Our charity is run by volunteers and we foster animals in our own homes so we have minimal overheads. Some of our volunteers like to cover some small costs themselves, such as petrol when driving an animal(s) to the vets. However, a small part of your donations will go to operational costs such as phone bills, printing, fundraising and transport.
Direct donation
By making a direct donation to us, we don’t need to pay a third party to process your payment.

Fundraise for ARC!
We love hearing from volunteers who want to support our fundraising. Here are a few ways you can help:
- Volunteer at fairs on our stall or at one of the regular car boot sales
- Run your own activity, such as a cake sale, or get family & friends to sponsor you on JustGiving volunteer at an event
- Donate items to ARC or sell them for us on ebay

ARC membership
Becoming a member of ARC is a great way to learn more about our work and have a say in how we run the charity. Annual membership costs £10 and includes attendance and voting at our AGM, and access to ARC’s annual and financial reports. To join, please email membership@animalrescueandcare.org.uk with your contact details and confirm you’ve set up a monthly or annual direct debit (using “Membership” as the payment reference). You can also pay via PayPal, Visa or Mastercard using the Donate button below, but as this incurs a fee for ARC, direct debit is preferred. If you do use Donate, please email us your details so we can stay in touch.

Donate Pet Supplies or Provide transport for animals or carry out home checks
-
Pet supplies: We always welcome donations of cat food such as Royal Canin, Hill’s Science Plan, James Wellbeloved, Burns and Vitakraft. Our rabbits and guinea pigs need hay (e.g. Oxbow or Hay Shed) and Burgess Excel pellets. For small animals including hamsters, rats, chinchillas, gerbils, mice and degus, we need paper bedding, safe wooden or grassy chews, food and treats.
-
Transport and home checks: We’re always looking for volunteers to help transport sick, injured or homeless pets, and to carry out home checks. Basic training is provided.
- No blankets or towels though please – we have enough

Leave a legacy
A few supporters have been very kind in leaving a legacy in their will for ARC or their families have organised a collection in memory of their loved one. We are currently exploring ways of making this easier and being able to properly thank those who have supported us in this way
