Adopting a Rabbit – The Process
Rabbits are social little animals, and so need to be homed in pairs or groups. We therefore don’t allow adoption of a single rabbit unless you have another one at home to bond it with (pair it with).
We can bond one of our rabbits with your existing rabbit but your rabbit must have been vaccinated against Myxomatosis/RHD1 and the new fatal rabbit disease RHD2 before we can do that. It must also be neutered. We also have pairs of rabbits that are already bonded and ready for homing.
Step 1
You can view all the rabbits that are in need of a new home here on our website.
Step 2
Once you make contact with us, we’ll give you the details of the foster home so you can arrange to meet the rabbit(s) and make any bonding arrangements if necessary. Please check your spam box incase our email has gone into there! And bear with us as we’re all volunteers and work for ARC in our spare time. It may take a couple of days to get back to you. Please complete all boxes.
Step 3
We’ll then complete a home visit and help you in making sure you have everything you need for your new family members
Step 4
To go ahead with the adoption, you will need to complete and sign our adoption form and leave the minimum donation for your new companion(s) with the fosterer. Please see minimum donations.
Finally please don’t forget to come back and leave us a message on our Testimonials page once your new pet has settled in!
Adoption Donation
While it would be great to rehome animals for free, like all animal charities we need to cover the costs of our vet fees, pet food, litter, beds and housing, toys and all the other associated costs of running A.R.C. Our vet fees alone are in excess of £6000-8000 a month. Instead of charging a set fee, we ask for a minimum donation as you take your new companion home.
If you were to a buy a rabbit from a pet shop or breeder and get them vaccinated and neutered it would cost approximately £200.
Minimum Donation for Rabbits
- £65 baby or adult vaccinated against Myxomatosis and RHD 1&2
- £75 adult neutered and vaccinated against Myxomatosis and RHD 1&2
- £125 bonded pair of rabbits neutered and vaccinated against Myxomatosis and RHD 1&2
You can pay your adoption fees directly via PayPal, GoCardless or bank transfer. If you cover the fees payable in PayPal or GoCardless, your money will go even further to helping the animals in our care. Please make sure to say which animal you are adopting on your payment to help us track our income. You can also complete this form with details of your payment – thank you!
